The long and wide, stiff, fibrous leaves of Agave americana have sharp, stout tips and hooked teeth on the margins. Beautiful patterns on the leaves known as bud imprints, are caused by juvenile leaves held in bud stage with their marginal teeth impressed upon each other before they unfurl and fully develop.
